About the blog
Green Caret discusses a wide range of topics, most of which relate to writing and editing — or to words in general. If you can argue the merits of Chicago style versus AP style, you’ve found a kindred spirit. If you’re interested in making your writing tighter and more effective, welcome. I hope you find something helpful every so often.
About the blogger
Joel has well over a decade of professional experience in proofreading and copy editing. He’ll go to the mat for the serial comma, has an irrational aversion to the plural possessive, and shamelessly inserts spaces around em dashes. And yes, he realizes he’s very, very late to the blogosphere.

A friend and writer in Columbus, Ohio recommended your blog.
I enjoyed your post about the abuses of -centric. Sadly, buzzwords abound in business and personal communications, and in the wake of social media seem to be proliferating.
P.S. Not to green mark your text under ABOUT, but you might want to add “in” to the following:
“If you’re interested making your writing tighter and more effective, welcome.”
Oh yeah, feel free to correct my blog anytime, as I bow down to you for I can’t argue the merits of Chicago style versus AP style.

Pamela, I’m so glad you checked out the blog. And thanks for catching my typo — I think I rewrote that paragraph a few too many times. (And it may change yet again.) Always nice to have a fellow writer looking out for me. Hope you’ll come back soon!

I stumbled on your blog and am enjoying your posts. I’d like to ask for one on the increasing, and increasingly inappropriate, use of “amid” in popular writing. I’m a free-lance editor and have a day job as a contracts reader in a mid-size law firm; language has been important to me all my fairly long life, and I’m encouraged by your site to think that it will continue to be important to others for a while, too.

Piet: Thanks so much for reading. I’m glad that you’re enjoying the blog. I’d love to hear more about the use of amid that you’re talking about. If you’d like, you can email me at greencaret[at] gmail [dot]com with specifics — or just comment again here. It’s always great to compare notes with fellow language lovers. Cheers!
